AI Meets AI
Adobe is once again at the forefront of innovation with the introduction of an AI-powered Vector Recoloring tool within its renowned Illustrator graphic design software. This new feature significantly simplifies and enhances the process of altering the color scheme of vector-based images, making it a highly anticipated addition for professionals in the graphic design industry.
Vector graphics, which are primarily saved in Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format, are unique in their ability to retain quality regardless of scaling. This makes them particularly advantageous for creating logos, illustrations, and other designs that must be adapted to various sizes and resolutions.
The Illustrator Vector Recoloring tool, a part of Adobe’s Firefly suite, leverages generative AI to facilitate quick and sophisticated recoloring of SVG files. Users can easily upload their vector files and employ the Vector Recoloring tool to generate an array of colors and palette variations. Interestingly, this can be accomplished by either typing a text description or by selecting from a list of sample prompts. This provides a remarkable level of convenience and intuitive control, which is poised to improve the workflow of designers.
One of the standout aspects of this feature is the creative yet efficient way in which it interprets text descriptions. For instance, in a demonstration video released by Adobe, the input "underwater coral reef" resulted in an image being recolored to shades of blue, pink, and coral orange. This sort of intuitive interpretation is expected to spur creativity and efficiency in the design process.
It is important to clarify that the Vector Recoloring tool does not generate imagery but focuses exclusively on providing alternative color schemes for existing vector files. This is particularly advantageous for design professionals who seek to present multiple color options without the time-consuming task of manual recoloring.
Adobe has been integrating AI into various features across its suite of applications in a bid to streamline processes and enhance productivity. Notably, both Photoshop and Lightroom have received updates that incorporate AI for automated object selection, thus minimizing the need for manual intervention.
As of its introduction, the Vector Recoloring tool is available as part of the Adobe Firefly public beta. Adobe has now made this wonderful new creative tool available in the most recent public beta release of Adobe Illustrator.
