Transitioning Towards AGI

Recently, OpenAI updated its core values as reflected on its careers page. Previously outlined as Audacious, Thoughtful, Unpretentious, Impact-driven, Collaborative, and Growth-oriented, the organization now lists a new set with "AGI Focus" at the forefront.

This shift highlights OpenAI's emphasis on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), a form of AI capable of human-like understanding and problem-solving. OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has described AGI as akin to a “median human that you could hire as a co-worker”. The revised values omit previous terms like "Thoughtful", "Audacious", and "Impact-driven", indicating a more narrowed focus on AGI development.

This change isn’t merely textual; it represents a strategic pivot in OpenAI's mission, aligning the organization more closely with AGI development. It also sets a precedent that could influence the broader AI industry’s focus. Is AGI much closer than we think?
